About us
There has been a veterinary practice in Cumnock for over fifty years, with John Senior (the present owner’s father) joining the existing practice in the late 1970s. At that time it was a mixed practice, caring predominantly for farming clients with a very small number of pets being seen.
John and his wife Heather (also a vet) took over the practice in the 1980s and carried out significant extensions to the current building in the 1990s, making additional consultation rooms, a larger reception, a theatre, prep area and lab. The need for these improvements and additions mirrored the increase in small animal work that the practice was doing.
Heather Senior was involved with the nursing side of the practice and her role later developed into a specific interest in animal behaviour and towards more administrative duties. John and Heather’s son Iain took over running the practice in 2015 and John retired in 2019. The practice made the decision to give up the large animal side of the practice in 2019 and it is now a busy small animal practice, caring for all domestic pets in the Cumnock area and beyond.
Today, Iain and his wife Jo run the family practice with the support of three vets, two registered veterinary nurses and a dedicated team comprising several animal nursing assistants, receptionists and admin personnel.
The practice is proud to be accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as part of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, with an additional award in client care. Crossriggs is also a registered nurse training and VetGDP practice, training the next generation of vets and veterinary nurses. Additionally, the practice offers work experience placements to undergraduate vets and school students to support their studies or career choices within the veterinary science world.
